Art and nature in Gunillaberg. Mermaid dress over the pond

I woke up in my room at the Stora Hotellet wondering if you could really say that I had spent the night there. The white nights of Sweden They create some confusion if you spend them in the city but they become spectacular if from the wide ledge of your window you have breathtaking views over a sky that looks like some imperishable embers. He would enjoy that same night.

But before that we would have a long and complete day ahead. I enjoyed a magnificent breakfast at the buffet - the best natural orange juice (squeezed by yourself) that I have ever tasted outside of Spain - and we left with the van heading to the church of Habbo, located less than 20 kilometers northeast of Jönköping, capital of the Swedish region of Småland.

Habo church

The habo church It is a unique monument, made of wood and completed in 1723 after being rebuilt several times over the original chapel of the twelfth century.

The church and bell tower of Habbo

There are few remains that are preserved from its medieval period but we could see some ancient coins, small sculptures of apostles and the great Baptismal font, from 1250.

Our guide told us that the battery was replaced by a modern one at the beginning of the 20th century, being forgotten in a storage room. In a face wash carried out in 1940, painters used it to mix the colors within it. It was not returned to its rightful place until 1951, but now its edges were reddish.

We made a visit of about 45 minutes guided by Kristian.
